DAVIS, CA - After Gastric Bypass Surgery, a Davis woman is inspired to create a foundation to help others living with obesity afford Weight Loss Surgery.

In April of 2009, Antonia Namnath weighed 303 pounds. Namnath said, "It's very hard when you're a hundred pounds or more over your ideal weight. All of your joints hurt." Even doing simple things for Namnath was difficult. "I would have to get out of the shower and sit down because I could not complete an entire shower. I would have to rest."

Namnath says she has tried most of the diets out there including Weight Watchers, Jenny Craig, and Nutrisystem to name a few. Over the years Namnath would lose weight, but then gain it back again. sometimes putting on even more weight in the process.

On May 18, 2009, Namnath had Gastric Bypass Surgery. Now, more than two years later at 50 years old, Namnath weighs 188 pounds. Namnath said, "I'm not on a diet for the first time in my life. I have a new diet, I eat a new way, but I'm totally satisfied. I'm not hungry."

The success from the surgery wasn't enough. Less than a year later, on April 26, 2010 Namnath founded the Weight Loss Surgery Foundation of America.

WLSFA was inspired by identical twins, Connie Bailey and Rosemary Almgren. The foundation raises funds to pay for weight-loss surgery for people who either can't afford it or have been denied by their insurance companies.

Deemed morbidly obese, Almgren's insurance company approved her weight loss surgery. However, Bailey who has the same insurance but a different policy was denied year after year.

With the assistance of WLSFA, Bailey became the first recipient of the grant. Bailey had Gastric Bypass Surgery on March 23, 2011 and has already lost 100 pounds.
