The company that owns a chain of weight loss stores in North America has officially spoken on the recent sudden closure of a chain of Alberta franchises.

In a statement sent to CTV News, the company says the eight Alberta locations were owned by Steve McDonough and Ann Marie Vaillancourt, operated under Weight Loss Alberta Corp. as franchisees of LA Weight Loss.

The statement said before McDonough and Vaillancourt decided to close the franchises, the company attempted to help the owners sustain the business – but they continued to generate losses.

LA Weight Loss said in the statement:

"These are franchisee owners who did not properly notify us of their intent to close. We have procedures for closing centers. The appropriate procedure would be to notify the franchisor in advance and prepare a responsible closing."

The statement also said the company had contacted the owners since they closed their locations to advise them on ways to properly close their locations, including making pre-purchased products available for pick up at the stores.

In the document, the company also provided contact information for the franchise owners:

"Current clients of Weight Loss Alberta Corp. can contact Steve McDonough or Ann Marie Vaillancourt for inquiries concerning active contracts, refunds, products, etc. at (403) 819-6561, (403) 660-2654, (403) 245-6601, or"
