SINGAPORE: A*STAR's Singapore Immunology Network (SIgN) and Swiss pharmaceutical company, Galderma Laboratories, have signed an agreement to study how acne develops in the skin.

A joint statement said understanding the immune mechanisms that contribute to the development of the inflammatory phase of acne will help scientists treat the condition at its roots.

The research may lead to new treatments for acne, which has a global market estimated to be worth US$3 billion.

The project will be supported by several research groups at SIgN over the next two years.
