A woman accused of killing and cooking her husband comes up for parole on Wednesday, and People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals has proposed a special condition it says will cure her taste for blood.

"Require her to follow a nonviolent, bloodless, vegan diet as a condition of her parole," the group wrote to the warden of the Central California Women's Facility.

That's where Omaima Aree Nelson, 43, is serving 27 years to life for the second-degree murder of her husband. She was convicted in 1993 of murdering her husband and then cooking his decapitated head, frying his severed hands and running other body parts through a garbage disposal.

Nelson testified during her trial that her husband was a brutal abuser who raped and beat her repeatedly. She said she fought back and killed him during one such sexual assault.

Her parole hearing is scheduled to begin on Wednesday morning.

In its letter to the warden, PETA wrote that animals on factory farms "always get the death penalty."

"The last thing that a convicted killer and cannibal should be allowed to do is chew on these innocent victims' body parts," the group wrote. "Eating humane and healthy vegan food will undoubtedly help Nelson lose her taste for blood."

PETA offered to send Nelson its "vegetarian/vegan starter kit," with recipes and tips for going meat free.
