Denise Farmer, the owner of Healthy Inspirations, announced that effective Monday, she will be closing the Nipomo location and merging with Custom Workouts in Santa Maria.

Healthy Inspirations began as a small basic gym in Nipomo in 2005, which over the past six years has grown to a larger, more inclusive, full-service weight loss and exercise club. The same staff will be moving to the Santa Maria location to provide the same services members currently enjoy.

Existing members have the option of continuing their membership at Custom Workouts, transferring membership to the San Luis branch of Healthy Inspirations or canceling.

Custom Workouts is located in Pine Tree Plaza at 2125 S. Broadway, Suite No. 108, in Santa Maria.

Many people will be sad to see Healthy Inspirations leave Nipomo, as they have been a generous member of our community.

Besides exercise, another key is staying healthy is how you eat. Consuming processed foods is not eating real food but manufactured products that contain preservatives, chemicals, dyes and more.

If you want to learn how to eat healthy, attend the Yoga Shack's cooking class from 4 to 6 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 8.

Tommy Anderson will teach the Old World-style Mediterranean cooking using fresh herbs, vegetable, lean meats and zesty spices, all of which make for delicious and nutritious meals.

You are invited to bring a bottle of your favorite wine to complement your dish. The Yoga Shack is located at 762 Story St. in Nipomo and reservations can be made by calling 931-0331. More information about the Yoga Shack and the many yoga and exercise classes taught there can be obtained by visiting www.tommyandloriyoga.com.

Midnight in Morocco, the gala dinner fundraiser for the Women's Shelter South County services, will be held Saturday, Oct. 22, at the South County Regional Center, 800 W. Branch St.

Last year's A Night in Argentina was a huge success and so much fun for such a worthy cause.

The center will be decorated in a Moroccan theme with beautiful lanterns that will be auctioned off, colorful tents and will even include a live young camel.

The raffle prize will include lodging at a beautiful resort in Spain, plus $2,000 cash. Only 100 tickets will be sold, so the odds are good for winning. If you would like to buy a $100 ticket, contact me at 929-1120.

A recent news bulletin revealed the discovery of Listeria monocytogenes in avocados from Mexico, specifically from Fine Mexican Food Products Inc.

They are recalling 1,423 cases of frozen avocado pulp and 1,820 cases of avocado halves.

Listeria is an organism that can cause serious and sometimes fatal infections in young children, frail or elderly people and others with weakened immune systems. This reminds me to remind you to shop at your local farmers markets.
