Acne Gets a Silver Lining

By Alannah Sparks | Posted: Wed 12 Oct 2011

When art and fashion collide the results are usually interesting, but rarely do a fine artist's visions for a fashion brand come so convincingly close to the upcoming seasonal trends. So London artist Daniel Silver's collection for Acne was a surprising premonition of what we'll all be wearing come spring: clashing patterns and African-inspired prints, all translated flawlessly into Acne's sharp minimal shapes.

Silver first met Acne creative director Jonny Johansson when he was photographed for the labels biannual magazine Acne Paper last year. Having grown up in Israel and with grandparents hailing from Eastern Europe, South Africa and Zimbabwe, Silver had a rich heritage to draw upon when he designed the fabrics.

When juxtaposed together the raw tribal fabrics make for a collection of instant wardrobe hits, including a light and airy patchwork-like dress, a crisp white shirt with a leopard print bib and a split pencil skirt featuring comedic hand illustrations dispersed throughout the bold prints.

The collection was launched last night at the Swedish label's Dover street store, with a champagne reception that was attended by a host of ethereal, willowy Acne fans including Alexa Chung, Daisy Lowe and Bip Ling.
